Western imperialism killed Patrice Lumumba to facilitate their plunder of resources rich Congo:
This year marked 55 years since the assassination of Patrice Lumumba, one of Africa’s greatest liberators. Che Guevara called him a “martyr of the world revolution”, Malcolm X called him “the greatest black man who ever walked the African continent, [who] didn’t fear anybody and had the people in power so scared they had to kill him.”
It was his example of not being afraid to tell it like it is to the former colonial masters, to expose and deconstruct imperialist arrogance and his politics of true sovereignty that were an inspiration for the Third World. These were also the reasons why the CIA and MI6 in cooperation with the Belgian government and the United Nations connived to get rid of him through a coup organized by Congolese stooges, as they saw him and his aspirations as dangerous to their imperial interests.
Despite all the hardships this valiant young man (he died when he was 36) went through, despite all the traitors in his midst and despite having to fight against an unholy alliance of imperial power, as these last words in a letter to his wife testify, he was unwavering in his faith in the people and their capacity to build towards a better future. #BlackHistoryMonth
